A ground source heat pump works by absorbing energy from the ground via a series of pipes, which are laid under your garden. Heat is absorbed from the ground which is turned into fluid using a mix of water and anti freeze, then the system pumps the fluid into a heat exchanger, which in turn pushes heat into your home.

The length of the ground loop depends on the size of your home and the amount of heat you need. Longer loops can draw more heat from the ground, but need more space to be buried in. If space is limited, a vertical borehole can be drilled instead.

Originally used for football pitches and other sports arenas, permanent grass is now seen in gardens, often for the whole outdoor area or sometimes for just certain high-use areas, such as around decking. It’s also frequently used in children’s nurseries and school playgrounds.

There are plenty of good reasons for this. The main one is that the artificial grass is so good that only when you’re close can you see it’s not actually real grass. It also looks great at all times of year and in all areas — no more brown patches in summer or worn areas under trees.

Permanent grass offers many years of almost maintenance-free use. There is no need to cut it or water it or to use artificial fertiliser or pesticides. It’s also great for kids to play on, as it won’t stain clothes or footwear.

A requirement for Solar PV Installations since 1st April 2012

If you’re buying, selling or renting out a property or installing a Solar PV system, you’ll require an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) on your home.

An EPC gives information on how to make your home more energy efficient and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. An EPC records how energy efficient a property is, providing a rating of the energy efficiency and CO2 emissions of a building. An EPC also provides recommendations for further energy efficiencies and cost savings to your home. An EPC is valid for 10 years.

How is it worked out?

Our Domestic Energy Assessors are qualified to inspect any property to assess it for efficiency, to issue certificates and to advise on any improvements — such as fitting loft insulation, double glazing or boiler replacement. As you can see from an Energy Efficiency Rating chart, grades are awarded ranging from ‘A’ at the top for very-energy-efficient, down to ‘G’ for the least energy-efficient home, with the average grade being a ‘D’.

Once we’ve carried out the survey and issued the certificate, it will be lodged in a central database along with a unique identifying number. Access to each EPC held on the database is restricted to the property owner / seller and potential buyers via this unique reference number.
