The winter weather can affect the condition of your roof. Strong winds, rain, snow and freezing conditions can take their toll on your roof. Your roof protects your home from cold and damp, insulates your home and even supports the structure.

Leaks and broken tiles could cost you A LOT of money if not repaired before they become a major problem.

Roof repairs are essential before the winter weather, repairing small problems like drafts will help reduce your energy usage, therefore your energy bills too.

Invest in Energy Efficient Windows

green-windows-eec-home-improvements

All homes lose heat through their windows. Energy efficient windows can reduce heat loss and keep your home warm, meaning cheaper energy bills.

Energy efficient windows could also secure your home, sound proof it and reduce condensation.

Installing new windows can seem costly but over the years you could help you save on energy bills

For a FREE quote on Energy Efficient Windows visit our windows section here.

Shut off Traditional Fireplaces

Traditional Fires working in a chimney draw warm air from the room into the chimney, which is then replaced by cold air from the outside. This air then has to be heated by the fire, reducing efficiency and increasing costs.

When using additional heating in your home you should close off the chimney, a simple and temporary way could be to fit a chimney pillow/balloon.

Another option would be to install a gas fire. Today’s gas fires are available to suit any home with or without chimneys. Glass fronted gas fires could save you money and produce a considerable amount of heat into your room.

Invest in Solar PV as Ofgem announces the Feed In Tariff is to remain at 15.44p

green money

Ofgem has announced that the Feed In Tarff (FIT) rates will remain at 15.44p until 1st May 2013 rather than be cut in February 2013 as originally planned. (Source: Solar Power Portal) Great news for homeowners and businesses wanting to benefit from the higher FIT rate.

Why is now the time to invest in Solar PV? On the 1st of May 2013 the FIT payment will be slashed again by 3.5%, which would see a significant depletion on your return. If you decide to install a Solar PV System now, you will be guaranteed the 15.44p FIT payment for the next 20 Years.

Solar PV is designed to help household and business owners to increase their energy efficiency, of course homes and businesses also use Solar PV to save money on energy bills and make an income from generating their own electricity. The government introduced the FIT payment on the1st of April 2010 as an incentive to encourage the uptake of renewable electricity-generating technologies including, Wind Turbines, Hydro electricity, Anaerobic Digesters and Micro Combined Heat and Power (CHP)

Solar PV offers great financial and environmental benefits, it’s also an investment, giving you a better return-on-investment than a high street bank, as well as reducing your reliance on fossil fuels. (Source : Solar Power Portal)

So to take advantage of the 15.44p FIT payments while you still can, contact EEC Home Improvements today. We will provide you with an individual FREE no obligation quote, detailing the system size, full cost, relevant plan and payback calculation, you’ll be able to see the potential savings you could be making.

Heating bills rising and rising and you cant keep up? A Ground Source Heat Pump could solve the problem.

EEC Home Improvements Ground Source Heat Pumps

Did you know that we are only 40 years away from oil depletion, and there are only 65 years of gas left? * * (Source: Statistical Review of World Energy 2012). How will that affect us? Well it already has, no doubt you will have noticed a rise in your energy bills.

Now’s the time to consider various types of Renewable Energy options to improve your homes sustainability.

When we think of Renewable Energy we often think of Solar Panel Systems, Solar Thermal Systems or Wind Turbines but what about a Ground Source Heat Pump?

There are many benefits of installing a Ground Source Heat Pump. Ground Source Heat Pumps could lower your energy bills especially if you are switching from traditional electric heating, and could provide you with an income through the governments Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) Depending on which fuel you are replacing, you could also contribute to lowering your homes carbon emissions, it will heat your home and provide hot water and need little maintenance – that’s why its called ‘fit and forget technology’.

A ground source heat pump works by absorbing energy from the ground via a series of pipes, which are laid under your garden. Heat is absorbed from the ground which is turned into fluid using a mix of water and anti freeze, then the system pumps the fluid into a heat exchanger, which in turn pushes heat into your home.

The length of the ground loop depends on the size of your home and the amount of heat you need. Longer loops can draw more heat from the ground, but need more space to be buried in. If space is limited, a vertical borehole can be drilled instead.

To find out if your property is suitable for a Ground Source Heat Pump contact EEC Home Improvements today. A heat pump installer will carry out a FREE survey and draw up any necessary plans to assess if your home is suitable.
